DANGER! WILL ROBINSON
Syria’s Assad wants to cash in on the abundant conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of top terrorists Mughniyeh, who they now say, was killed in their capital last week by their Lebanese enemies as a pretext to attacking Lebanon. That will lead to actions against Israel using surrogates, and could be used as an excuse to attack U. S. interests. Director of US National Intelligence Mike McConnell’s assertion to Fox TV Sunday, Feb. 17, that, while Hezbollah is blaming Israel, “…there’s some evidence that it may have been internal Hezbollah. (The killing) may have been Syria. We don’t know yet, and we’re trying to sort that out.”
Syrian sources promise the results of their finished inquiry will cause an earthquake in the Arab world and Middle East when they are published Saturday, Feb. 22. The DEBKAfile says Syria will describe its discovery of a Mossad spy ring in Syria and Lebanon’s involvement with the Israeli secret intelligence organization. Hezbollah will likely seize on the report’s release coincident with the anniversary of the 1992 killing of its then leader, Abbas Musawi, that it did and does blame on Israel to inflame the situation.
Last Thursday Syrian officials fanned out to broadcast outlets promising attacks against Israel and Jewish targets worldwide. The situation will get much more tense and dangerous this week, and caution is advised. According to reports from Middle east sources last week, the FBI placed counter-terror squads on alert in the US against attacks on synagogues and other potential Jewish targets in the U. S.. There have been warnings since last year of Hezbollah sleeper terror cells in the United States waiting for orders. Saudi Arabia has warned its citizens against travel to Lebanon. Riyadh backs the pro-Western government of Lebanon.
