About the Author

After 25 years of writing for others I am now writing for myself and for the sheer fun of it. As for my "PC Fugitive" name that is in reference to my complete abhorrence to anything labeled "politically correct". I also have a unique perspective on the current financial problems. I spent 10 years in banking from 1980-1990 which was during the height of bank deregulations. I then spent seven years ending in 2005 as a consultant to banks and credit unions advising them on how to become more profitable.

Obama Phenomena

Teh Next President has a Big PortfolioIt seems as if Obama is being carried by a tidal wave of adoration and gaining a momentum that Hillary might not be able to stop. There are reports of growing crowds wherever he goes as he mesmerizes all demographic groups: old, young, black, white, rural, suburb. I have even read of women fainting during his speeches as if he is the new Elvis or Beatle or Sinatra (pick your idol based on your generation). And yet….

Anyone who follows Obama and listens to him will agree that as wonderful as his speeches are they still don’t contain any substance. To learn more about him, I checked his website; http://www.barrackobama.com/. To my surprise there was a link called Issues with discussions on his views starting with Civil Rights, Disabilities, Economy and ending with Rural, Service and Senior Citizens with many more in between.

So what are his views on the issues? Not surprisingly they are liberal and similar to Hillary’s programs. He wants a big government which will create jobs, take care of everyone and spend lots and lots of money. Where will the money come from? Us, of course and big business which once again is shown as being an “enemy” of not only “the people” but also an enemy of the environment. And yet……

His health care doesn’t mandate that everyone sign up for it. Unlike Clinton, he won’t force you to join his universal coverage. On immigration, he wants to secure the border and he supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens. On the economy he wants to Provide a Tax Cut for Working Families, Simplify Tax Filings for Middle Class Americans, Fight for Fair Trade and Amend NAFTA.

Some of his ideas on security include Protecting Our Chemical Plants, Keeping Track of Spent Nuclear Fuel, Reuniting Families After Emergencies, and Keeping Our Drinking Water Safe. And yes, Obama plans to stop the war in Iraq and bring home the troops. Yet he also wants to increase the army by 65,000 and the marines by 27,000 soldiers and he wants the Chief of the National Guard to be a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

That is just a brief example of Barack Obama’s ideas. I disagree with most of his environmental “global warming” plans but the ideas I just mentioned above don’t sound bad at all. In fact he sounds more conservative than McCain on immigration. It makes me wonder what people who have drunk his Kool-Aid and are blindly following him would think if they knew he is proposing these ideas. Then again that is probably why he never talks issues only hope and promises

  1. I agree totally. Also, he’s running on his word and integrity and twice he said his mother was a single parent and that’s not true; she remarried when he was two and I don’t know how poor you can be going to two private schools while in Indonesia and then a private high school when he returned to Hawai and lived with his maternal grandparents. I can’t understand why the media doesn’t pick up on this. If it were Hillary or John Edwards they’d be all over it.

  2. You speak the truth on that one! I’m a single mother and even if his mom had raised him as a single mom, I wouldn’t vote for him. He has no honor or integrity.

  3. No integrety? Are you kidding me? Hilary straight up called Obama a supporter of drug/slum lords of Chicago during the South Carolina debate. What a dumb low blow, and you say Obama has no integrity??? you make no sense. Have you heard him speak (w/ an objective mindset)? I’m not psychic, but you feel integrity and honesty pouring out of him. Cum on man.

  4. The problem with Obama is the same as many politicians. While profiting handsomely from it they berate the system that they helped develop. They are big on proposals but short on how to pay for them and also to reverse the situations that brought us to where are today.

And one other thing. Obama is a multi-millionaire but from what I saw of a television program where the media were going ga-ga over his humble background, his grandmother lives in little more than a shack. It’s a lousey multi-millionaire who doesn’t look out for his grandmother. But then of course, it may be that his grandmother prefers to live the way she does.

  5. I also believe that Hillary has no honor or integrity. Obama is a smooth talker but he still doesn’t clearly state what exactly he plans on doing if, and that is a big if, he is elected. Any man or woman who refuses to honor our country, should not be our president. Or did you, Kim, miss that Obama refused to honor our flag, which represents the US?

  6. My feeling is that Obama is not as intelligent as Hillary is. But worst of all, most voters are far from being semi-intelligent so I can see why they gravitate to some ridiculous orator who says nothing. Take a look around you, how many people do you know who actually perform with 100% intelligence, integrity and honesty? For most people the answer is “not many”. Let’s face it Obama is all talk and no walk. He’s like the belief in God - have faith but don’t question. Believe in God but don’t expect miracles. Well, I don’t believe in that crap, and I don’t believe in Obama. I believe in action! Obama states that he did not agree with the Iraq war. Well, someone tell me what kind of leadership role did he take to stop the war? Sure, he gave a speech but isn’t that what a senator’s job is? I mean, if Obama is supposed to be some great leader then why did he not do more to help stop the war? He was in a good position to do more but he did nothing. For those of you who lack intelligence, look back to year 2003 - were you against the war? I know more people who were against the war back in 2003 than after the war started because people felt guilty about the need to support the soldiers so they were forced to agree with it. Obama keeps using this mantra, “I always opposed the war!” Yeah, well so did millions of other unqualified people so, what the hell makes him so special? Ask any unintelligent Obama follower and they will tell you, “He makes me believe that change can happen.” Oh Brother!

  7. Regarding some of the recent comments, I have never heard Obama say that he was poor or from humble circumstances. My impression that he was from a middle class family environment. His African grandmother lives humbly because I suspect that is the life she has lived her entire life. I’m sure he would provide her whatever she needed, if necessary. Neither he nor his wife have worked in high paying positions for any length of time, if at all. Public interest work and political positions usually pay pretty poorly, which is much of what they have done. If they have made millions recently, it is probably on the basis of his two best selling books. I don’t think we should begrudge him having made money honestly on two books that he wrote himself. I thought that was the American way. I think there are an awful lot of people trying to tear him down for no good reason other than partisanship or bias. If you don’t think he is qualified to be President, don’t vote for him. But let’s stop the character assassination. And know the truth before you judge.
