Obama’s Pastor Launches Resurrection Campaign.

They all do it and have for a long time

Retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and Barack Obama’s 20-year pastor, said criticism of him was “unfair” and “devious,” and done by people who know nothing about his church. But, his comments have dragged Democrat Presidential nominee wannabe Obama into a storm raising questions about his judgment.

The criticism that Wright refers to was sparked by his proclaiming from the pulpit “God damn America” for its racism. He accused the government of flooding black neighborhoods with drugs and of creating the AIDS virus to kill blacks and branded the country as the KKK of America. Wright’s remarks are the subject of an interview on taxpayer funded PBS’s Bill Moyer’s Journal to be broadcast Friday evening.

Apparently Barack Obama’s pastor has launched a campaign to resurrect both their tattered images. Wright’s campaign to save the campaign for the Democrat Presidential nomination of Obama seems ill-advised and poorly considered because it will pull the lid off the issue of Obama’s 20-year relationship with Wright.

In a March 18 speech in Philadelphia, Obama described the history of injustice that fueled Wright’s comments, while also condemning his pastor’s statements and acknowledging white resentment of African-Americans. Asked his response to the senator’s speech, Wright said, “He’s a politician, I’m a pastor.”

Political commentators on Friday’s Good Morning America, that broke news and showed excerpts from the Moyer interview said Obama’s people must be “tearing their hair out” because of Wright’s campaign. That seems to be a fairly general consensus.

Wright is scheduled to speak Sunday at a Chicago NAACP Dinner and Monday at the National Press Club in Washington. Wright’s campaign comes as GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain is arguing with the North Carolina Republican Party over its ad excoriating Wright and Obama for his connection to him. The TV ad is scheduled to run Monday, ahead of the state’s crucial May 6 primary. A narrator in the spot says, “He’s just too extreme for North Carolina.” McCain has asked local officials not to run the ad, but the state GOP said no.

    It’s a shame that so many people dismiss Rev. Wright as a fanatic without really listening to his whole sermon. With so many blacks sharing the same views, you would think that people would stop and take a closer look at why blacks feel whites are out to get them. Just look at things like The Plexus Agenda by Andre Lewis, Tuskegee Syphilis Study, Jim Crow laws, Jena Six, Katrina, and you will realize what Rev. Wright is saying is true.

    Jennifer: I cringe at every example of hate and abuse that seems to be a part of the dirty genes in all humans everywhere and so prevalent even before whites dominated the US and eventually became the largest market for a slave trade that predated the US. Slave trade has been conducted by black, asian, european and new world merchants before the US existed. The very real slavery that exists today in many parts of the world is no less despicable.

    I have listened to more than the Wright sound bites and still think too much of the message is simply political and counterproductive and even harmful to the entire black community and the entire United States.

    Some of the things you mentioned are from the past, and so many white folk are not part of any of the negative items you mention and there are and have been lots of milennia old and new examples of black on black, black on white, white on white plus all the yellow and brown combinations possible of hateful discrimination?

    Members of the Wright congregation said on national TV that that kind of white anger preaching is just the normal diet for most black churches across the country. It is not better nor in the least any more useful than hateful teaching in too many Islamic Madrasses or informal or formal underground but real White resistance and discrimination today to blacks. It all sucks.

    Don’t you realize that that kind of anger at whites creates so much resentment in so many of those of us who are not responsible for the negative black experience? Most whites are not part of the continuing discrimination you try to document in a one sided manner against blacks.

    And what does this teach but hate and separation and unintended consequences to young blacks? That all whites owe them something.

    Don’t you realize that takes the very soul away from young blacks just as any low self esteem experiences and teachings does to whites?

    Race baiting is a profitable industry and big business. Wright has staked out his store front like others of various ilks, ideologies, and persuasions.

    Logical argument can’t be sold for profit. It is easier to peddle hatred and spew vile things to a ready market.

    Wright wraps himself in an alter cloth; oithers in a flag and some in white robes. But, it is all so similar. But, guys like Wright should know better - afterall he contends he knows the way the strews the path the shattered glass.
