Taxes

More States Take Cutting Gasoline Tax Idea.

Is Gregorie running for president too?

John McCain argues for suspending the 18.4 cents per gallon federal tax on a gallon of gasoline. Hillary Clinton sort of agrees but, Barack Obama says “no” and calls it a gimmick.
Now an assortment of states are talking about cutting their taxes on gasoline too. State taxes on a gallon of gasoline averaged 28.6 cents in the first quarter of 2008 is in addition to the federal per gallon tax of 18.4 cents. Some State are talking about all sorts of tax cut ideas Florida wans to cut it 33.2 cent tax by a dime; New York has no intention of cutting its 42.3 cent tax a bit on average taxes add 42 cents to a gallon of gasoline. Missouri’s idea is to refund gasoline taxes to State motorist when they submit their gasoline receipts they will get a check back for its 17 cents a gallon tax.

Forty-six percent (46%) of America’s Likely Voters favor a federal gas tax holiday this summer. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 42% are opposed and 12% are not sure. Most voters who earn more than $75,000 a year oppose the gas tax holiday. Most who make less than $60,000 a year favor that policy change. Among those make less than $20,000 a year, 62% favor the gas tax holiday while only 11% are opposed

OPEC may decide to increase production taking pressure off of prices and feightening speculators who account for 20-40% of crude oil costs. Analyst say there is an even change crude will fall below $100 a barrel if OpPEC increases production.

Less Affluent Favor Gas Tax Holiday.

Is this a good deal?

According to a rasmussen Poll released Thursday forty-six percent (46%) of America’s Likely Voters favor a federal gas tax holiday this summer. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 42% are opposed and 12% are not sure. Most voters who earn more than $75,000 a year oppose the gas tax holiday. Most who make less than $60,000 a year favor that policy change. Among those make less than $20,000 a year, 62% favor the gas tax holiday while only 11% are opposed.

McCain proposed suspending the 18 cents a gallon federal tax and Hillary supports it. Obama opposes it.

McCain Says End Gas Tax; Raise Child Deduction, And End Spending Increases.

Balancing ActJohn McCain wants the federal government to suspend the 18.4 cent federal gas tax and 24.4 cent diesel tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day. He also renewed his call for the United States to stop adding to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and thus lessen to some extent the worldwide demand for oil. Federal taxes are per gallon while many states put a sales tax on gasoline and diesel so the higher the price and higher the tax.
McCain also called for the Department of Education to act to strengthen the student loans program that is under stress as many lenders have been cutting back or eliminating loans. He also wants to raise the income tax exemption from $3,500 to $7,000 per child, and suspend for one year all increased spending by federal departments.

McCain called for these reforms on the event of the April 15th income tax filing deadline.

Thousands of Karina “Victims” Collected As Much As $150,000 Undeserved

As many as 5,000 Katrina victims may have received tens of thousands of dollar more than they were entitled to due to what appears to be incompetence of a private contractor charged with dispensing taxpayer monies to them. The average amount of overpayment is estimated to be approximately $35,000, but in some cases may be as high as $100,000 to $150,000. In the rush to pay residents the $11 billion program almost inevitably ran afoul. Now the government wants those over-payments back amid cries, moaning and more than a little political posturing.

Some of the recipients have spent the funds on extravagance and collecting the misappropriated taxpayer money will be fraught with charges of mistreatment and unfairness. This is a boondoggle of epic proportions and it is likely that the U. S. taxpayer will be the ultimate victims once more as “victims” enjoy exotic vacations and Cadillacs paid for by the real victims.

What’s Wrong With Europeams Paying Us for Refueling Tankers

Boeing verse AirbusThe flap over (Airbus) EADS and U.S.-based Northrop Grumman Corp. winning the lucrative aerial refueling contract is silly. When is the last time, or any time, Europeans have paid for U. S. military cost as it is in this deal. Plus, Boeing stepped in it. After all a former Air Force official and a top Boeing executive both served time in prison, and the scandal led to the departure of Boeing’s chief executive and several top Air Force officials. Plus, we get more tankers for less money; build 3-4 plants and hire 5,000 Americans.

Reasons for Rice’s Shift Has Parallels Today

Condoleezza Rice’s switch from Democrat to Republican was provoked by two events says Ron Kessler of NEWSMAX. (1.) The endless refrain at 1984 Democratic National Convention (that nominated Walter Mondale) to “women, minorities, and the poor, which basically means helpless people and the poor.” Rice, who grew up during segregation, was turned off deciding she would “rather be ignored than patronized.” (2.) Jimmy Carter’s professed shock at the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, demonstrating naivete and spotlighting his feeble approach to national security. The spectacle sickened her.Kessler suggest substituting the name Obama for Carter or Mondale. He raises the specters lurking around Obama including:

Obama Phenomena

Teh Next President has a Big PortfolioIt seems as if Obama is being carried by a tidal wave of adoration and gaining a momentum that Hillary might not be able to stop. There are reports of growing crowds wherever he goes as he mesmerizes all demographic groups: old, young, black, white, rural, suburb. I have even read of women fainting during his speeches as if he is the new Elvis or Beatle or Sinatra (pick your idol based on your generation). And yet….

Anyone who follows Obama and listens to him will agree that as wonderful as his speeches are they still don’t contain any substance. To learn more about him, I checked his website; http://www.barrackobama.com/. To my surprise

TAX IMMIGRANTS

Are we still moving?Americans are fleeing Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois at a wholesale rate. Allied Van Lines says for each family moving into Michigan two moved out. One reason is people are moving from high tax to lower tax states. The adage that high taxes don’t redistribute income but people is truer than ever before.

California with the highest income tax rate in America lost people in 2007 despite a flood of illegal immigrants. Next door Nevada – without an income tax – is gaining many of them. Still don’t believe taxes matter? Well North Dakota is flushing people at a record rate and South Dakota gaining – the principle difference is North Dakota has an income tax and South Dakota doesn’t.

This is excerpted from an article by Saulius “Saul” Anuzis, Chairman, and Michigan Republican Party who concludes by asking: Why are there those who still insist Americans want to pay for more and more government services?

TAX DOLLARS PAY FOR CONDOM-GRAMS

What are you doing? In an act of HYPOCRISY Planned Parenthood, which receives hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars every year, decided to waste a pile by delivering CONDOM-GRAMS to STATE legislators reminding them to be carefully with sex and the budget. There would be no argument if the symbolism was to remind legislators to stop screwing taxpayers.

Irony Alert: Code Red

Tax me, tax meIn an interview over the weekend, “The boy in the bubble”, otherwise known as our illustrious and lovable, President Bush, declared that it was stupid for Democrats to increase taxes on the rich because “the rich have accountants that can help them avoid all those pesky taxes”. In short, Bush knows the little guys, you know…regular slaves, like you and I, will always pick up the tab for the rich.
