Erudite author and conservative commentator William F. Buckley Jr. died Wednesday morning at age 82. His manner, verbal and facial affectations made him well known – his towering intellect and knowledge made him well respected.
The Obama Affect
I read an interesting article highlighted in the Drudge Report. It was from an article in The Australian about Obama. The journalist, Geoff Elliott compared the reaction Obama is getting to how people reacted to Mandela. In other words, people are looking up to Obama as more than just a new leader, but as a cult figure even something “akin to a messiah”. Wow.

Climate Change I and Energy Security I
I believe mankind should immediately and seriously embark on a goal, to be driven by technology, not market based trading schemes as they have unintended consequences, to reduce worldwide use of and dependence of most of the world on so many carbon based energy sources. This should be done without political hysteria (ha) or business resistance (ha), in order to bring change to the oil based tensions in the world, to stimulate intellectual processes and learning, to create new economic businesses to create jobs and as an important byproduct to reduce our contribution of green house gases into the atmosphere, whether or not our use is determinative to short term climate change. Still an open question in science.
Most importantly for the US, national security is on the line and our unnecessary budget deficits are ballooned by our attempts to keep oil flowing to the entire world, not just to the US.
DIAGNOSIS: HYPOCRISY
I have decided to blog here because a blog about hypocrisy will never run out of material. You might think otherwise. You might say, “Well, Snark, I manage to survive without saying one thing and doing the exact opposite, most days, why can’t the politicians?”
The Kennedy Mystique is alive and well, but where?
As the Caroline and Ted Kennedy announcements came out I remember feeling that it would be a help to Senator Obama. I do believe it was. I watched the MSM last night and channel surfed from MSNBC, CNN, and just to see if Carl Rove finally was going to put FOX on his official resume and thus his tax form, I checked that site as well.
I do believe the media has declared the death of the Kennedy mystique prematurely. Although the MA state vote did not go to Obama, I do not believe it was the reason for the endorsement. No one knows the peculiarities of the Kennedy family and most especially Ted Kennedy better than the MA voter. We know him. We respect him for what he does and has done for us through many years of hard work. We do not however, look to Ted for the future direction of the Democratic party. Nor do the people of MA see the family itself the same as the democratic party as a whole may.

The problem with the Republican Party is there are too many Republicans in it, a lifelong Democrat insists on repeatedly telling me. Ann Coulter, the willowy wild woman, is saying she will vote for Hillary if McCain is the GOP nominee, and Rush is in a similar rant. They and so-called Obamacans (Republicans threatening to vote for Barack Obama)
“A Woman in Charge” by Carl Bernstein & The Republicans
Hillary held center stage tonight Jan 24, 2008 indicating what Carl Bernstein called her in his book “A Lady in Charge.”
Tonight, she was very much “in charge” of the Republican debate. Most candidates were more prepared to campaign against her than other Republicans. They seem to be looking beyond a potential Obama win in South Carolina, to Hill & Bill in the Final Two contest in November.
Martin Luther King
America was different in the past. It will be different in the future.
Let’s hope we have unique leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King whose life and accomplishments we honor with an annual holiday. Tomorrow, is that holiday.
MLK was a poet. He chose words that grabbed and touched people deeply. Unfortuately those words were felt by much of white America too slowly back then and in all races too shallowly today.
Caucus Mockus or an antidote to Many Millions?
Is the Iowa caucus a national embarrassment or a brilliant way to overcome the power of money in national party nominations?
Do you realize that if one of three Democrats or one of two Republicans had a staffer who recommended the proper combination of free taxi rides, food, location or scored the right celebrity, that candidate could get a boost in the press sufficient enough to become the nominee of their party and then become the President of the United States?
Just think, if one brought Britney Spears, the world could truly be changed by a few votes.
But then the likes of the Huckleberry Gov of the Ark and maybe even the O’Bomer or JohnWords (ever notice how long he can make short words sound?) might indeed have a chance for national publicity impossible in most other states.
Reality Is My Drug
Gotta love those reality shows.
- Being unscripted you get a chance to see something you can’t see anywhere else.
- Including new faces and other body parts of new talent.
- The producers cut costs, make a lot of money.
- Some of the new talent will become stars in future scripted shows.
